Recommended Reading For 2022

Last week, we talked with Jeremy Walker about five principles to keep in mind in order to read well. This week, we pick up with the sixth principle and share our recommended books for 2022.

The sixth principle is that of Balance.

No book but the Bible is perfectly balanced. Think of a diet. Only the Bible has every vitamin you need—if you read it through without just camping out in favorite spots.

We should balance our diet with good books, as well.

DO:

  • Read from different periods of Christian history

  • Read some of the more “brainy” books as well as warm, simple books

  • Balance the 3 categories we mentioned in the last episode (objective, experiential, and practical)

  • Try to have some way to retain what you are learning (e.g., notebooks)

  • Read before the Face of the Lord, asking for His help

Jeremy’s Books:

  1. Redemption Accomplished and Applied, John Murray

  2. Christ Precious, John Fawcett

  3. The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification, Walter Marshall

  4. The Saint and His Savior, Charles Spurgeon

  5. To the Golden Shore, Courtney Anderson

  6. Communion with God, John Owen

John’s Books:

  1. Knowing Christ, Mark Jones

  2. Glimpses Into the Inner Life Of Our Lord, William Blaikie

  3. Jesus: Power Without Measure, Douglas MacMillan

  4. The True Christian's Love For the Unseen Christ, Thomas Vincent

  5. Holiness, J. C. Ryle

  6. If: What Do I Know Of Calvary Love?, Amy Carmichael

  7. The Priest With Dirty Clothes, R.C. Sproul
